Kate Murdoch food stylist and recipe writer

Kate Murdoch is an experienced freelance food stylist and recipe writer who has built her career around her love of food.

After studying commercial cookery and food promotion, Kate began working in the test kitchens of Murdoch Books, developing, writing and testing recipes and cooking for photo shoots. She later became manager of the Test Kitchen.

Leaving Murdoch Books, Kate worked as a Food Editor with Donna Hay, working on her magazine and cookbooks. She gained experience from Donna’s hands on approach to help develop her food styling skills.  She learnt the importance of making the food in front of the camera look natural, effortless and beautiful in a classic, simple style.

Returning to freelancing, Kate worked as Food Editor for the News Ltd Taste.com.au lift-out, writing recipes and styling shoots, for both editorial and advertising content.

Kate currently works with media and advertising clients, creative and PR agencies – developing and writing recipes, styling and cooking for photography. She loves working closely with clients, and feels communication is of the utmost importance to deliver creative results clients desire and convey the messages needed, with ease and flare. Her work reflects her warmth and professionalism.

She resides on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and works regularly as a team with her photographer husband Oliver (Oliverford.com.au) who shares her love of food.
